Rome (AFP) – Belgian international striker Romelu Lukaku arrived Wednesday morning in Milan, where he will undergo a routine medical examination before completing the procedures for his return to Inter on loan from Chelsea, a year after his return to the latter from “Nirasori” in particular.

Wearing an Inter scarf, the 29-year-old said after his flight landed at Milan-Linati airport on Wednesday morning that he was “very happy”, according to a video clip broadcast by the Gazzetta dello Sport.

Dozens of fans waited in vain for the Belgian striker on Tuesday evening, after the club’s managing director Giuseppe Marotta announced in the afternoon that the player would soon arrive in Milan.

According to Italian and English media, Chelsea and Inter reached an agreement to return Lukaku to the team with which he was crowned Italian champions in 2021, a year after he was sold to his former team for 115 million euros.

According to reports, Inter negotiated an eight million euro loan for Lukaku for one season, with the player agreeing to a salary cut in order to leave Stamford Bridge.

The Belgian returned last summer to Chelsea, who defended his colors between 2011 and 2014, but, after scoring four goals in his first four matches, Lukaku fasted from scoring for a long time.

Lukaku finished the season as Chelsea’s top scorer with 15 goals in various competitions, but the former Manchester United and Everton player scored only eight goals in the league.

He has scored only three times in his last 15 league matches. He appeared in a controversial interview with Italian television last December, in which he admitted that he was unhappy with the way Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel used him and hinted that he was already considering leaving, expressing his regret for leaving Inter.

Tuchel punished the Belgian striker and excluded him from the starting line-up for a short period until he had to apologize for his comments to the club and its fans in January.

Chelsea finished their season in third place in the league and won the Club World Cup, but lost to Liverpool in the final of the Federation and League Cups, and lost their title in the Champions League by losing in the quarter-final against Real Madrid, who later crowned the title.

As for Inter, it gave up the league title in favor of its arch-neighbour, Milan, and was satisfied with the runner-up, while coach Simone Inzaghi’s team’s journey in the Champions League ended at the price of the final at the hands of Liverpool.
