Lula increases his lead in the poll just 6 days before the elections in Brazil | International

Former Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva expanded his advantage to 17 percentage points over the current president, Jair Bolsonaro, in a new poll released this Monday, six days before the elections.

Lula appears with 48% of the voting intentions, one point more than a week ago, while the far-right leader remained at 31%, according to the survey carried out by the Ipec demographic institute.

The data places Labor Party member Ciro Gomes in third position, with 6% of voting intentions, one point less than those registered a week ago.

She is followed in fourth place by Senator Simone Tebet, of the Brazilian Democratic Movement (MDB), the most traditional center-right party in the country, who remained with 5% of the support compared to the previous poll.

In a possible second turn, the leader of the Workers’ Party (PT) remained the winner with 54% of the votes, compared to 35% that Bolsonaro would obtain, the same result that occurred on September 19.

The poll showed that Lula’s chances of being elected in the first round increased, for which he would need to obtain more than half of the valid votes.

According to Ipec, in the survey concluded this Monday, the former trade unionist has 52% of the valid votes, compared to 34% for Bolsonaro, which would guarantee him the election without the need to go to the second round, scheduled for 30 in October if neither receives more than half of the votes.

The data indicated that in the last week the rejection of the far-right president increased from 50% to 51% and that of Lula rose from 33% to 35%.

For the survey, which has a reliability of 95% and a margin of error of two percentage points, Ipec interviewed 3,008 people throughout the country, between September 25 and 26.
