Anti-Russia activist Browder: Either Switzerland acts or a crisis looms
Bill Browder is not giving up on the Magnitsky case. The former investor demands that Switzerland prevent the payment of confiscated funds. Otherwise there is a risk of trouble.
Activist and former investor Bill Browder has called on Switzerland to comply with the sanctions policy in line with the European Union. He wants to prevent the payment of confiscated funds to Russians.
Browder doesn’t mince his words. Should Switzerland pay back confiscated funds to Russia, the country would become the center of an international crisis, Browder warned in an interview with CH Media published on Monday. He says: “I’m not exaggerating when I say: It’s a shame for Switzerland.”
Browder’s goal is to financially isolate Russia from the rest of the world. Switzerland is part of the problem. But you have to become part of the civilized world when it comes to financial matters. For him, the United States offer the saving hand.
Browder also shoots sharply in the most recent interview: “Even today, Switzerland stubbornly sticks to its tradition, which dates back to a bygone era. The country now needs to modernize and become a part of the civilized world when it comes to financial matters. Apparently this is not possible without the help of the USA.”
Helsinki Commission listens to Browder
Browder war already successful in July with his criticism of Switzerland. As a result of his initiative, the American Helsinki Commission called for sanctions to be imposed on three Swiss citizens. Among them was former federal prosecutor Michael Lauber.
The Commission, an independent US government committee, accused them of helping sanctioned Russians access funds frozen in Switzerland. The federal prosecutor and Lauber formally rejected the allegations.
