INCREASING the number of foreign tourists (tourists) must be consistently carried out by encouraging better quality tourism human resources (HR).
“The quality of tourism human resources who display friendliness and better skills are capital that must be possessed to improve services to tourists,” said Deputy Chair of the Indonesian MPR, Lestari Moerdijat, in a written statement, Thursday (4/4).
The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that the number of foreign tourists to Indonesia reached 1.04 million in February 2024. This number increased by 11.67% compared to January 2024. This achievement also increased by 38.24% compared to February 2023.
The tourism foreign exchange value until September 2023 was recorded at US$10.46 billion with the tourism sector’s contribution to Indonesia’s gross domestic product (GDP) estimated at 3.8%.
According to Lestari, in order to consistently maintain high interest among foreign tourists in traveling to Indonesia, the presence of tourism human resources who have good hospitality and skills and creativity is very important. Therefore, according to Rerie, Lestari’s nickname, in the development process in the tourism sector, various training to improve the quality of human resources is a strategic step that must be taken.
