A 1-year-old boy was killed by a crocodile in a river in Malaysia. He was rowing with his father on a river that flows into the Sulu Sea near the town of Lahad Datu.

While they were fishing, a crocodile suddenly snatched the toddler out of the boat. The 45-year-old father tried to free his son from the animal’s teeth. However, he couldn’t beat the reptile. With severe head and body injuries, the man had to watch as the crocodile disappeared under the water with the boy.

Authorities warn population of crocodile

Villagers were able to rescue the man after he swam towards land. He was taken to the hospital. But the son is still missing. The crocodile reportedly reappeared with the boy’s mutilated body in its mouth.

Authorities warned villagers about the crocodile after the incident. According to Sumsoa Rashid, head of the Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue Service, many local residents rely on the river for fishing.
