The last French soldiers of the Barkhane anti-jihadist force left Mali on Monday August 15, after nine years of military presence. In 2013, the soldiers were welcomed with open arms in Bamako, but the euphoria has now subsided, since the jihadist presence is still intense in the region. For the Malian population, the departure of the troops was eagerly awaited but Mali must take its responsibilities in the fight against insecurity.
