Madrid: La Liga has started an investigation into racial abuse against Real Madrid player Vinicius Junior. The Brazilian player was racially abused by Mallorca fans during the away match. Footage of the crowd calling Vinicius a monkey emerged. La Liga said in a press release that the act is unacceptable and fans should also help find the wrongdoers.
This is the fourth time that Vinicius has been racially abused in his opponent’s field. Earlier, a similar incident happened at the stadiums of Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Valladolid. Meanwhile, Vinicius refused to comment on the incident. A statue of Real Madrid player Vinicius Junior was hung over the bridge ahead of the Copa del Rey semi-final between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid. There was also a police investigation into the incident. A statue wearing Vinicius Jr’s jersey was hung alongside a banner that read ‘Madrid hates Real Madrid’.
The Spanish league, Atlético team and Real have condemned the incident raised by Colum. Earlier, Vinicius Junior’s goal celebration was also a big controversy when Atlético fans racially insulted him. Valladolid fans had also come out against Vinicius earlier. Vinicius Jr has previously accused La Liga authorities of not doing anything to stop racist abuse towards players.
After a match against Real Valladolid in the Spanish League, Vinicius came out publicly against the La Liga authorities after a group of spectators racially abused Vinicius and threw objects in his hand at Vinicius.
