Malmö Arab Film Festival honors Hussein Fahmy

The Malmö Arab Film Festival in Sweden announced the program for its 13th session, which will start at the end of April, with the participation of 45 films from 12 countries, in a special tribute to Hussein Fahmy.

The festival management, which was established in 2011 by Palestinian director Muhammad Qiblawi, said in a statement that the selected films are divided into 18 long and 27 short films.
Kiblawi said, “We are happy that the festival was able, as usual, to bring together the best productions of Arab cinema during the year following the previous session. The 2023 program is full of wonderful works that the cinema audience in Malmö will enjoy, and they will meet their makers from among the guests who will attend the festival to discuss their films with the audience.”
The official competition includes 12 films, including the Egyptian film “19 B” by Ahmed Abdullah Al-Sayed, the Saudi “The Crow’s Song” by Mohammed Al-Salman, the Tunisian “Under the Tree” by Areej Al-Sukhairi, and the Palestinian “Alam” by Firas Khoury.
The competition jury consists of Tunisian producer Tawfiq Qiqa, Egyptian actress Hana Shiha, Macedonian critic Marina Kostova, Lebanese actress Nada Abu Farhat, and Muhannad Al-Bakri, director of the Jordanian Royal Film Commission.

The official page of the festival on Facebook announced the reception of the opening stars, who are Nicolas Moawad, Samer Al-Masry, Carole Abboud, Sayed Ragab, Mansour Al-Fili, Tayseer Idris, and Nahed Al-Sibai.


As for the short films competition, it includes 17 films from Egypt, Sudan, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Palestine and Tunisia.
The rest of the films are distributed on “Arabian Nights”, “Movies Worth Watching”, “School Shows”, “Family Films” and “Audible Voices” with a special program for Saudi short films.

In its next session, the festival will honor Egyptian actor Hussein Fahmy for all his works.
