Just awful. When he saw a mother duck and her babies near a busy intersection, a man, a father, did not hesitate for a second to get out of his car to help the animals cross the street without danger. But a few seconds later, it’s the drama. The man is hit head-on by a car, in front of his children. He died instantly.
As his children waited for him to return to the car, the man was hit by another vehicle. Nothing could be done to save him. The victim died on the spot, indicates the local television channel “KCRA”.
The driver who hit the man, a 17-year-old girl, immediately stopped to check on the victim. According to the police, she is cooperating with the investigation.
Several witnesses witnessed the horror scene. “At first it was a scene of pure joy and happiness, which turned into horror,” said journalist Michelle Bandur, on “KCRA”.
William Wimsatt is one of the witnesses. He told US media that motorists were all waiting for the man to finish helping the ducks, despite the green light. “The man got out of his car and helped the ducks on the way and everyone cheered because it was really nice. My mother rolled down the window and shouted ‘bravo, well done’. I also said ‘bravo’ to him”, explains William.
But a few seconds after the joy, it was a real scene of horror. “I didn’t see the car hit him. I only remember the sound of the crash and its gliding flight. His shoes and one of his socks ended up in our car, ”says the witness, very marked. “He was the only person to get out of the car and try to help them and probably the nicest person around. It is not fair. It was his last good deed,” he concludes.
