the essentials Without reaching the level of establishments in Haute-Garonne, the holiday period was complicated in the emergency rooms of the Montauban hospital center faced with a lack of beds.

Traditionally dreaded, the holiday period proved difficult to digest for the Montauban hospital center, faced with a lack of available beds linked to an influx of patients and staff holidays. This means that we had to review the organization to pass this milestone. “The hospital has been in a context of tension since Christmas,” recognizes Gwenaëlle Buatois, deputy director. With the episodes of flu and gastro, we went from 70 people per day in the emergency room to 90 or even 100. We also noticed an influx of patients over 75 who required hospitalization. »

Some unprogrammed operations

After alerting the Regional Health Agency, the management of the establishment found solutions. “We rescheduled some operations that were not urgent until next week, we accelerated some outings when possible in order to readjust our workforce,” explains Gwenaëlle Buatois. Beds have been reopened since Friday evening and the situation should improve at the start of the week with the end of the school holidays.”
Departmental Director of the ARS, David Billetorte followed the evolution of the situation on a daily basis. “During the holiday season, you have to be vigilant. There was some tension, but no overflow or surge of patients. The system is holding up, the establishment has been able to adapt in terms of organization with much more regulation.”
On the health front, if bronchiolitis and covid are decreasing, gastro and the flu, which is arriving in its third week, are close to the epidemic threshold. “We must remember the barrier measures and there is still time to get vaccinated against the flu, knowing that the vaccination rate is lower than that of previous years,” recalls David Billetorte.
