The Pennsylvania Police, United States, decided to expand the area in which the Brazilian Danelo Cavalcante is being sought, the man sentenced to life imprisonment who escaped from prison last Thursday, after the fugitive was seen in a different area from the one he he was looking for it.

Pennsylvania State Police Lieutenant Colonel George Biven said at a press conference Tuesday that the area has been expanded after a security camera sighted the inmate at Longwood Gardens on Monday night, south of where the previously established perimeter was.

Cavalcante, 34 years old and born in Brazil, escaped last Thursday from the Chester County prison in Pocopson Township, in southeastern Pennsylvania, where he expected to be transferred to a state prison after being convicted on August 22 of killing to his girlfriend, Deborah Brandao, in April 2021 in the house they shared.

At trial, prosecutors said Cavalcante, who stabbed the victim in front of her two young children, was angry with her because she planned to reveal that he was facing a murder charge in Brazil.

Since his escape, hundreds of members of the Pennsylvania State Police and the FBI have been combing the area, which is a heavily wooded area with many places to hide.

Helicopters are also taking part in the search, while police vehicles are broadcasting a message in Portuguese recorded by Cavalcante’s mother, urging him to surrender peacefully to the authorities.

Given the danger of the fugitive, two Pennsylvania school districts will remain closed Tuesday: Kennett, which is about 9 miles from the prison, and Unionville-Chadds Ford, about 5 miles from the jail.

“Police informed us early this morning that the search situation has evolved and out of an abundance of caution, schools and offices will be closed today,” the Kennett Consolidated School District superintendent said.

“The district received information that the status of the situation with the escaped prisoner has changed. Schools and offices are closed today and the district will operate on a flexible instructional day,” the Unionville-Chadds Ford school district announced.

Police have urged residents to keep their properties locked, check their home security cameras and not interact with him if they see him and call the police.
