The Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI) will look into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 19-year-old man who allegedly slit his throat after stealing two vehicles and being involved in two crashes within 10 minutes on Friday before -noon, in the Lanaudière region.

The police officers of the Sûreté du Québec received a first emergency call around 10:40 a.m. from a man who said that an individual had just stolen his car at the point of a knife, on rue du Tennis, in Rawdon.

A few minutes later, the suspect was allegedly involved in a road accident at the corner of Route 337 and Route 125, in the municipality of Sainte-Julienne.

The young man would then have abandoned the stolen vehicle to steal a second one and thus flee.

The suspect, who was probably in crisis at the time, was involved in another collision a few dozen meters away.

He then allegedly slit his throat with his knife in front of several witnesses.

His death was pronounced shortly thereafter.

BEI investigators were to travel to the scene during the day to try to establish the circumstances of this tragedy.
