Four months after clinching the inaugural Climate Culture Innovation grant from climateXchange and Syli, the Philippine non-profit media organisation Sustina is preparing to roll out its Circular Solutions Map. Developed by an interdisciplinary team of journalists, strategists, and technical experts founded in 2025, the directory is designed to make vetted circular businesses—including recyclers, refurbishers, and other suppliers—visible and easily understandable across the Philippines.
Inside the Story-Driven Directory
Hosted directly on the Sustina website, the digital directory functions as a living, story-driven map of grassroots initiatives. According to the organisation, every pin placed on the map connects users directly to original reporting and content produced by Sustina’s editorial team. The platform aims to redefine the media ecosystem by anchoring environmental data and commercial sustainability efforts in rigorous journalism.
Operating as a women-led impact media organisation, Sustina structures its work across three core pillars. Sustina Earth functions as an impact publication covering the intersection of climate, culture, and capital. Sustina Lab acts as the strategy arm, building impact-first ventures and ecosystems. Meanwhile, Circulo was established as the organisation’s dedicated circular economy-focused arm.
The Waste Issue and Expansion Plans
The rollout of the Circular Solutions Map in September will coincide with the beta release of the map and the launch of The Waste Issue. Funded alongside the map by the Climate Culture Journalism grant, this digital collection features six in-depth stories focusing on the specific waste materials defining the Philippines and the individuals confronting them on the ground.
Beyond digital publishing, Sustina maintains an active calendar of capability-building training and free workshops. The organisation is scheduled to launch a new one-day Solutions and Social Impact Training workshop, sharing the specific skills and insights the team acquired while building Mapa Sustina with fellow journalists and media practitioners.
