Jerusalem: Aljazeera journalist Maram Humaid wrote a letter to his children condemning the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Maram Humaid noted that he regretted dreaming of a better future in Gaza, and that dream was wishful thinking given the current situation. Maram Humaid wrote to his three-month-old son Iyas and his one-month-old nephew Yess.

In a letter to the children, Maram Humaid wrote that she realizes that her children sense that something is wrong around them. Maram Humaid said that the children’s reactions to each explosion are correct, and the children are constantly shocked and cry breathlessly at the sound of the bombs falling.

‘Some nights your faces are upset when the planes fly overhead and the bombs go off. “I feel that discomfort is asking us many questions and answers,” said Maram Humaid.

‘I am writing this letter in the hope that you will be able to sit and read it in a safe world. But I know that hope is uncertain. I want to add the present situation to your generation and record it for you,’ added Maram Humaid.

Maram Humaid wrote in the letter that when she looks into the eyes of children, she remembers the loss of life of months-old babies in Al-Shifa hospital in Palestine.

Maram Humaid said that the world is turning into a graveyard of the most innocent lives. Maram added in the letter that he remembers the painful stories of parents unable to reach their children under the onslaught of forces that continue to occupy the land.

Maram said that it fills his eyes when he sees children playing in temporary tents, forgetting about the disasters happening around them. In the letter, Maram added that they are concerned for the safety and well-being of Eyas and Yes as parents.

Maram Humaid said the children’s incessant crying disturbed them until the doctor told them that the children’s grandmother’s kidney disease was caused by contaminated water. The letter said that Maram Humaid and his partner were forced to use clean mineral water bottles and go in search of them despite having knowledge but no way.

‘This may be my last letter. Remember not to forgive those who remain silent in the face of our suffering. Life in Gaza is always challenging. But we tried to live and dream. Now we regret the shadows of every moment that was conceived to bring you a better life,’ Maram Humaid wrote in the letter.

‘It breaks my heart to watch your illness with a smiling face amidst the chaos. There is little hope for a better future here. The future promises only more torture,’ added Maram Humaid.
