RFI and France 24 announced this Friday the finalists for the Marc-Vivien Foé prize, rewarding the best African player in Ligue 1. Seko Fofana, Chancel Mbemba and Terem Moffi will compete for the trophy on May 30.
Seko Fofana can dream of the double. Holder of the title, the captain of RC Lens is one of the finalists for the Marc-Vivien Foé prize, rewarding the best African player in Ligue 1. This Friday, RFI and France 24 revealed the three candidates for this distinction, which will be awarded on 30 may. Elected last year, the Sang & Or is the favorite, after another good season where the Lensois, guaranteed to finish on the podium, can still believe in 2nd place in the championship behind PSG.
Moffi and Mbemba also finalists
Among the other contenders for the trophy, we also find the very offensive defender of OM Chancel Mbemba and his four goals in Ligue 1 or the Nigerian striker Hall Moffi, spent this winter from Lorient to Nice, and author of 17 pawns with the Merlus and the Aiglons. The first can become the second player from the Democratic Republic of Congo to win the trophy after Gaël Kakuta (2021), while the second, aged only 23, quickly adapted to the Côte d’Azur.
Created in 2009, the prize is awarded by a jury made up of nearly 100 former players and journalists specializing in French and African football. It bears the name of the former Cameroonian international of RC Lens Marc-Vivien Foé, who died in the middle of a match of cardiac arrest during a 2003 Confederations Cup match in Lyon.
