Marco Odermatt talks about his back problems and gives the all-clear.
After the race cancellations in Zermatt, the men’s speed start has been postponed overseas. The starting signal is scheduled to take place in Beaver Creek at the beginning of December with 2 downhill runs and a Super-G. According to Marco Odermatt, “half the world” is currently training in Copper Mountain.
Odermatt himself had to take a break recently. The 26-year-old suffered a minor injury to his back during Super-G training: “It hit me while I was driving. It wasn’t a serious injury, a lumbago, I would say.”
Loss of training is compensated for by therapy and exercises
Still, it forced him to take a short break. “I basically crawled back into the apartment on all fours,” said Odermatt. Last season’s overall World Cup winner got himself back into shape with therapy and lots of exercises.
Odermatt has now completed further training sessions and was able to give the all-clear: “Everything needs a bit more energy. But I felt very comfortable again.” So nothing should stand in the way of the speed start in Beaver Creek – as long as the weather in the US state of Colorado cooperates.
