Men rake in a lot more in Hollywood
Margot Robbie earns 12.5 million as a Barbie
Pay gap in Hollywood: Margot Robbie earns $12.5 million, more than any other actress, but still a fraction of what her male colleagues earn.
“Barbie” earns the most: It has been leaked that Margot Robbie (32) will receive a fee of 12.5 million US dollars for her role in the upcoming Barbie film, which she is currently shooting alongside Ryan Gosling (41). This makes the Australian the highest-paid female film star in Hollywood – but she still earns significantly less than her male colleagues.
So should Hollywood star Will Smith (53) despite his Face slapping scandal at this year’s Oscars have negotiated an incredible fee of 35 million dollars for his upcoming Apple TV thriller “Emancipation”, as reported by US media. According to the industry journal Variety, this is the highest film fee paid out this year.
Cruise makes $100 million on ‘Top Gun’ sequel
Film star Tom Cruise (60) earns even more: The US actor is said to earn around $ 100 million in the sequel to his cult film “Top Gun” from 1986 by sharing in the revenue of his blockbuster “Top Gun: Maverick” – making him Hollywood’s highest-earning movie star. Margot Robbie’s 12.5 million fee almost sounds like an intern’s salary.
A very similar picture emerges among TV stars: Hollywood star Kevin Costner (67) is currently leading the income list of the highest-paid actors. According to Variety, Costner, who had great success in the ’90s with films like Dances With Wolves, is getting paid $1.3 million per episode for the fifth season of his TV series Yellowstone. For comparison: Oscar winner Helen Mirren (76) is currently the highest-paid female TV actress and earns one million dollars per episode of the “Yellowstone” offshoot “1923”, Elizabeth Olsen (33) receives for the true crime mini-series “Love and Death” earns $875,000 per episode, and Anne Hathaway (39) earns $750,000 per episode of her drama series “We Crashed”.
What is also striking: On the list of the highest-earning actors in the cinema industry, a total of eleven men rank ahead of Margot Robbie. Which shows that the gender gap is still wide in Hollywood. And with the exception of Helen Mirren, the same still applies in 2022: women must above all be young and beautiful, men also cash in when they are old.
