María Corina Machado Demands Venezuela Election in 2027

Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado insisted on presidential elections taking place in 2027 during her first press conference in Venezuela following more than 10 months in exile, stating the timeline adheres to a three-phase transition plan outlined by the United States.

The Three-Phase U.S. Plan and 2027 Election Timeline

Speaking from Venezuela on a Thursday following her return, Machado maintained that her presence inside the country proves the progression of the transition roadmap. The framework was initially delineated by U.S. leadership in January following the capture of ousted president Nicolás Maduro.

“My presence in Venezuela and what we have experienced in these last three days demonstrate, firstly, that the three-phase plan presented by President (Donald) Trump is moving forward and, after a few hours, the deadlines set by Secretary Marco Rubio for advancing towards a democratic transition have become clear, making it clear that presidential elections will be held in 2027,” Machado stated.

Since January 3, following the removal of Maduro by U.S. government action, Maduro has faced the legal system while political shifts have begun to unfold. Machado characterized the opposition’s trajectory as defying traditional political expectations.

“Ours has been a path of impossibilities; they told us it was impossible to achieve what we had set out to do, and I always remember that when we faced these obstacles, it was with the spirit, with the determination to become greater,” she noted.

Commitments to Political Prisoners and Restitution

Beyond election scheduling, Machado outlined institutional accountability as a core priority for the Vente Venezuela movement. She pledged that the country will establish formal mechanisms for memory, justice, and non-repetition concerning individuals detained or targeted for political reasons.

“I want to thank the political prisoners, the persecuted, their families, and the human rights defenders. And today I want to reaffirm my commitment to them that in Venezuela there will be memory, there will be justice, there will be reparations, and above all, non-repetition,” Machado said.

The opposition leader vowed that state security apparatuses will no longer be utilized against civilian or military populations, confirming that efforts will persist until every remaining Venezuelan civil and military prisoner is released.
