Marianne Vos disqualified in Sweden for using a prohibited position, the victory attributed to Cordon-Ragot

The French Audrey Cordon-Ragot took advantage of the disqualification of the Dutch Marianne Vospenalized for having used a prohibited position, to win the Swedish Cycling Open on Sunday in Vargarda.

Victorious in a four-man sprint, Vos learned of her disqualification half an hour after the finish.

After viewing the TV images, the jury of commissioners estimated that the triple world champion had used a prohibited position for a few seconds, the position known as the “puppy paws“, the wrists resting on the handlebars without holding it firmly.

The victory therefore returned on green carpet to Audrey Cordon-Ragot in front of the Briton Pfeiffer Georgi and the Belgian Valerie Demey.

It’s a strange situation, explained the champion of France. I’m proud not because I won but because the team rode very hard. This is the most important thing for me today“.

At the same time, Cordon-Ragot scored twice this weekend in Sweden since, with her Trek-Segafredo formation, she had won the team time trial run on Saturday.

Vos, very prominent in the recent women’s Tour de France where she won the points classification, could only accept the jury’s decision. “The rule is the rule and I have to accept it even if I feel bad because I didn’t benefit from my position“, explained the Dutchwoman.

I realized after a few seconds that this ‘puppy paws’ position was not allowed and quickly got back into a good position. But these few seconds of inattention during the race were enough to be disqualified“, she added.
