Marinakis: They want to link the Asimakopoulou case to the postal vote and that is dangerous – 2024-03-22 14:47:04

Once again, government representative Pavlos Marinakis received a barrage of questions regarding the case of the leak of personal data of emigrants which reached the hands of MEP Anna Michelle Asimakopoulou.

Pavlos Marinakis said that the mission was made between the two election contests and that “the attempt to involve Ms. Kerameos has no basis. She was not even a minister but a parliamentary candidate. They are trying to create an issue where there is none. They put every possible and improbable name. They have reported to Mr. Voridis who had already resigned.”

He continued: “The Home Office does not give out emails and what happened should not have happened. ND does not have such lists. And there is no other complaint against ND. For some to try to link individual behavior to a party shows what they want to do. We never downplayed the issue. For us, the words responsibility and resignation are not unknown. It is for the opposition. As a government we have tightened the law. Finger pointing at us on an issue by those who flaunt irreversibly convicted felons and those who have no problem replacing the people who had set up para-ministries of justice goes a long way. The most dangerous thing that is attempted is the attempt to connect it with the postal vote. They do it because they voted against the letter. They won’t succeed.”

Regarding whether there is a political issue with Ms. Kerameos, he repeated: “There is no issue with the Minister of the Interior. He wasn’t even a minister. It’s unthinkable. The opposition is trying to instrumentalize the issue. Those who have never resigned for anything are calling for the resignation of Kerameos.”

Asked why the government was in a hurry to draw a conclusion, and if the election process is in doubt, he wondered: “how can it be doubted when some emails were leaked?” The elections are held in absolute secrecy and if someone wants to link it, they are building a dangerous narrative. We have an obligation to preserve our state. What does it matter if some bad guy gave some email? You know how elections are done. What does the immutability of the electoral process have to do with the leaking of emails? The opposition is already asking for Kerameos’ resignation, and if he doesn’t believe our own investigation, let’s wait for justice.”
