Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope DLC review – The Last Slayer of Sparks – Nintendo Switch – ntower

During the last Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo and Ubisoft Entertainment released the second DLC for Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope. In this you can explore the new planet Hortusmelodicus, which was able to awaken the urge to explore in me again, but overall it shone with too few new ideas and ingenuity. You can read below what awaits you in this DLC.

The story of the DLC takes place in the middle of the main story, as our heroes receive and investigate a new signal on the way to Misera. It quickly turns out that something sinister is happening on Hortusmelodicus, which is why the gang around Mario, Bowser and the Rabbids set out to find the troublemakers. They meet the Spark hunter Dolores, who pursues her own individual goals, which are not revealed right at the beginning.

Unfortunately, in addition to the new story, you can expect a lot of familiar things. Hortusmelodicus is quite an interesting and also inviting planet, which is mainly due to the musical note. Everything on this planet is provided with musical tones, so that you will be accompanied by gentle sounds while strolling through the grass of the forest. Far from this nice bonus, however, the typical puzzles of the main story belong to the repertoire of the planet.

The boat ride is one of the small surprises of the DLC

So you have to move stones, climb ladders, let tendrils grow and fight fights again and again. This continues to work beautifully, but in no way feels like DLC, it just feels like the next planet in the main story. Only a short trip by boat could motivate me to explore, as several small beaches and islands could be approached.

The fights themselves are similar to those of the main story. Although you will meet new enemies, the basic gameplay remains unchanged. As soon as you meet the new adversaries, you quickly come up with tactics that run through the entire adventure. The five new Sparks that you can obtain in the game, which give you completely new abilities, add a little more depth. You can also unlock fourteen memoirs that reveal more about the history of the last Spark hunter and nine new weapon skins are also included in the pack.

All in all, The Last Hunter of the Spark offers a lot of new from the old. That’s by no means bad, as the five-hour adventure is fun. Nevertheless, thanks to the lack of creativity, some disillusionment remains. With new abilities for the overworld, new ideas could have been incorporated into the game and it would end up feeling like something new too. SO, despite the fun I had in the game, I look a little disappointed at the second DLC and hope that the third and final additional content will set new standards again.
