Maritime traffic between the Aegean Sea and the Sea of Marmara has been suspended due to the ongoing forest fire in the northwestern Turkish province of Canakkale, the Ministry of Transport and a shipping agency said on Tuesday. .
“Traffic in the Dardanelles was suspended in both directions on Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. (1545 GMT) due to the aircraft responding to the forest fire in the area by taking on sea water in full safety,” the Tribeca shipping agency said.
The Dardanelles Strait, a narrow and historically important passage connecting the Aegean Sea to the Black Sea, is a vital sea route for ships traveling between Europe and Asia.
