Markets Recover on Value Buying, says Geojit Research Head

Indian equities rebounded during Monday’s trading session, driven by value buying and strong performance in the metal, power, and healthcare sectors. The 30-share BSE Sensex advanced 482.92 points to close at 73,606.75, while the broader Nifty 50 index gained 153.20 points to settle at 22,753.20, according to business-standard.com.

Sensex and Nifty Recover Despite Macro Pressures

  • Benchmark Recovery: The Sensex climbed 0.66% and the Nifty 50 rose 0.68%, recovering from earlier session losses.
  • Sectoral Leaders: Nifty Metal led the gains with a 2.2% increase, followed by the Nifty Pharma index up 1.67%.
  • Macro Pressures: Elevated crude prices and impending central bank policy decisions kept broader sentiment restrained.

Metal Sector Rally and Mid-Cap Gains

The market turnaround was anchored by pronounced strength in cyclical and defensive pockets alike. On the sectoral front, the Nifty Metal index emerged as the top performer, ending 2.2% higher.

Vinod Nair, head of research at Geojit Investments Limited, noted that markets recovered on value buying even as crude prices and global cues capped broader gains.

Global Cues and Upcoming Policy Decisions

Despite the recovery from early losses, investors maintained a selective posture. Caution prevailed ahead of upcoming monetary policy decisions from the U.S. Federal Reserve, the European Central Bank, and the Bank of Japan. Elevated crude oil prices and ongoing geopolitical uncertainty further restricted the upside.

Early quarterly results indicate a commodity-led earnings boost across power generation, metals, and refining operations. However, high energy costs and prevailing interest rates are projected to moderate overall corporate growth momentum in the upcoming quarters.
