The Minister Delegate for Citizenship is organizing a festival on February 11 at the BnF to promote reading and allow amateur writers to be published.
Marlène Schiappa wants to create one citizen book festival, according to information from Parisian. This festival, wanted by the Minister Delegate for Citizenship in collaboration with the Minister of Culture Roselyne, will be held on February 11 at the BnF in Paris.
The citizen book festival must combine round tables and a workshop around reading, as well as two literary prizes. Writers like Valérie Perrin, Leïla Slimani and David Foenkinos are approached.
The ambition of this event is of course to promote access to books and reading – six months after Emmanuel Macron decreed reading “great national cause” – but also to highlight budding writers.

“Many French people have stories lying around in the back of their drawer. Except that they don’t have the codes to try their luck. It is important to highlight those who want to show their commitment to causes in which everyone can recognize each other”, thus indicates Marlène Schiappa to the Parisian.
All those who participate in the festival will therefore be able to slip their work into a “manuscript box”. The partner publishing houses of the event, including Flammarion, Grasset or Le Seuil, will then take it up to determine whether the manuscript deserves to come out of its drawer.
