Mascot sentenced for violence against a school student

In the Romerike and Glåmdal district court, the offended school student described the blow as “a perfect blow”, with a lot of force that caused intense pain and immediate nosebleed, writes Romerikes Blad.

The scuffle is said to have started as an innocent play fight, before the situation escalated and the teenager, who was dressed as a squirrel mascot, punched the other teenager in the face.

The accused teenager, who was 17 when the incident took place, pleaded not guilty and explained in court that he was scared and felt adrenaline in his body when the victim repeatedly hit the head of the costume, which was a large plastic helmet.

The district court has attached little weight to his explanation, and gives him a large part of the blame for the situation escalating.

The teenager was sentenced to 75 hours of community service, which must be completed within 120 days. In addition, he is sentenced to pay NOK 25,000 in compensation to the victim.

– My client thinks it is a difficult and boring case. Since the appeal deadline has not expired, we do not have any comment on the case beyond this now, says the teenager’s defender Camilla Myhrer Abrahamsen at the law firm Tønset to Romerikes Blad.
