Mass Effect 5 – Slowly but surely?

On November 7, 2021, on the occasion of N7, a community day celebrating the Mass Effect saga, BioWare unveiled a mysterious poster. The studio today gave some news. Already, the development of Mass Effect 5 is progressing slowly but surely. A true monument of the video game landscape, Mass Effect charmed a whole generation of gamers for many years until the release of the latest Mass Effect Andromeda episode, which received mixed reception. When a new opus is announced, it is quite normal for players to have very special expectations in order to pay homage to the trilogy.

To meet this hope, the developers want to take their time to avoid repeating past mistakes. Especially since BioWare is under pressure after the failure of Anthem and Andromeda, players may not spare them. With this project, the studio is trying to regain its former glory, where Dragon Age: Inquisition was crowned best game of 2014.

With the desire to be more transparent about the progress of the projects, BioWare has set up the “BioWare Community Update” which will allow you to learn more about the projects in progress and behind the scenes of the games that are expected with impatience like Dragon Age 4 which does not have a more precise name for the moment but whose gestation is already much more advanced despite the difficulties encountered, such as the departure of important executives for the team.

We therefore learn that the development of the next Mass Effect is now active, although it is still in its infancy. Despite a teaser at The Game Awards 2020, the project hasn’t really progressed much, especially when you know that BioWare has a very busy schedule between Dragon Age 4, the follow-up to MMO Star Wars The Old Republic and its recent expansion Legacy of the Sith.

There’s also the next game in the Mass Effect universe, which has now entered early development. We will have to wait a while before we can talk about it in more detail. ”

Even if we don’t have more information, we can hang on to the fact that the title is made under the Epic Games engine, Unreal Engine 5, which promises very good things in view of recent demonstrations.

One thing is certain, BioWare seems to be willing and wants to communicate more behind the scenes. It is all the more important to share information and to be transparent when working on so many “big” files at the same time. We can still wonder if the teams are holding up at a time when many companies are exercising the crunch.

In addition, the fact of developing so many projects at the same time, especially when we look behind us (hello Anthem…) can question us about the usefulness of doing everything at the same time if so that on arrival, the players and criticism are bad. The future will tell us, BioWare promises to come back soon to tell us about it.
