Jeddah: Saudi security authorities have arrested 15,000 foreigners who violated the country’s residence, employment and border security laws in a week and deported 10,482 of them who have completed the legal process.

Saudi news agency SPA reported that violators were arrested from different parts of Saudi Arabia between September 14 and 20.

Of those arrested, 9,538 were found to have violated Saudi’s immigration laws, 3,694 were for violating border security laws, and 1,822 were for violating labor laws. A total of 43,763 illegals, including 7,378 women, are currently being prosecuted, the Saudi Interior Ministry said in a weekly statement.

A total of 38,220 detainees were referred to their diplomatic offices to have their travel documents corrected prior to deportation. Along with this, another 1,722 illegals have been referred to complete travel reservations.

During the same period, those who provided transport, shelter and work to those who violated the country’s resident immigration border labor regulations were also arrested.

The Saudi Ministry of Interior has repeatedly warned that those who facilitate the entry of infiltrators into the country or provide them with transport, housing or any kind of assistance face a maximum of 15 years in prison and a fine of up to 1 million riyals. Along with this, the vehicles and accommodation provided will be confiscated and their names will be published in the media.

With a population of approximately 32.2 million, Saudi Arabia hosts a large community of migrant workers. In addition, the authorities have recently taken various measures to regulate and stimulate the local labor market. Under the slogan ‘lawless country’, the authorities are carrying out vigorous nationwide searches to find illegal expatriates.
