Many families saw their homes plunged into darkness at the start of the night on Saturday, when more than a million customers were deprived of electricity on the Hydro-Québec network.
Equipment failure is the reason for this major breakdown, according to the Hydro-Quebec website. Around 6 a.m., the situation seemed resolved when only 14,000 customers were without electricity.
At the height of the outage, more than 300,000 Montrealers had no electricity. The service interruption affected tens of thousands of homes in the Laurentians and Laval, while hundreds of thousands of people are also affected in Montérégie and the Capitale-Nationale.
As of this writing, the state-owned company has not issued any additional comments or explanations regarding the situation on its social media.
