This coming Tuesday, June 20, President Gustavo Petro could face the most massive march against him since he came to power in August of last year.

For that day, in different cities of the country, ‘The march of the majority’ is called, a demonstration without political color that seeks to send a forceful message of rejection of the Government and its controversial reforms. The call was born spontaneously in one of the so-called Space or Twitter chat rooms. Since then, the snowball effect has been clear and, in addition to Bogotá, there will be marches in at least 20 cities in Colombia.

“I will take to the streets because Colombia has been the sum of the efforts of many who gave everything for Colombia, people who did not kill, kidnap, or rape women or minors. Colombia is not a paradise, but neither is it the slop that Petro sells us. Colombia was not born on August 7 of last year,” said journalist Diego Santos, one of the main leaders of the demonstration, in dialogue with SEMANA.

Jaime Arizabaleta, a candidate for mayor of Cali, and an opponent of Petro, told this magazine: “You have to go out and march because democracy is very difficult to consolidate, but very easy to lose. Petro thinks that by winning the presidential elections, with a very short margin, he can do whatever he wants with the institutions and the country. I march so that he does not persecute the press, so that he clarify the financing of his campaign and so that he does not use state intelligence to shoot opponents. It will depend on June 20 if his tyranny deepens or if he stops. That is why we must be millions in the streets of Colombia”.

The meeting points for the protesters have been disclosed on social networks.

“Let’s all go to the streets on June 20. You have to go, with your family and 5 friends, a multiplier effect that tells Petro that the majorities do not want his reforms and do not want to see the country destroyed,” said Ariel Ricardo Armel. .

The march has been joined by civic leaders and people from all political sides. “Marching is defending democracy,” said, for example, Carlos Alonso Lucio.

Santiago Castro, former president of Asobancaria, added: “I invite all Valle del Cauca residents to join the March of the Majority this June 20. United and massively we will demonstrate the rejection of the disastrous reforms of @petrogustavo ya parties jams like @partidodelaucol that enable them”.
Senator Miguel Uribe, from the Democratic Center, pointed out that the march seeks to “defend democracy, the independence of powers and demand the truth in the face of these scandals that today compromise Petro. It’s time for the citizens. #TheMarchOfTheMajority”.

For her part, Senator Paloma Valencia, from the Democratic Center, said: “We Colombians are going to tell the Petro government to govern without scandals, without corruption, without destroying. Join us in this march where love and respect for Colombia will prevail.

The former presidential candidate Enrique Gómez Martínez published a list of the reasons for going out to march this Tuesday, June 20.

In the different cities of the country the call moves intensely through social networks.

The artists will also express themselves against the Petro Government. “We will be there for you Colombia”, said, for example, Lucas Arnau.

The former mayor of Bogotá Enrique Peñalosa, one of the most recognized critics of President Petro, also gave his reasons for joining the march.

Former Defense Minister Diego Molano, candidate for mayor of Bogotá, will also participate in the march.

The young people have also decided to accept the call for Tuesday.

Likewise, some retired officers of the Public Force will join the demonstrations.
