Firefighters were also sent to put out a fire in the building which, as a result, affected the roof, which began to collapse. Several helicopters were deployed for this task, as well as more than 320 people and more than 130 units of equipment.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations declared that the fire was considered to be of “major complexity.”

The governor of Moscow, Andrei Vorobyov, reported that “a tragedy has occurred” and confirmed that firefighters were working on the Crocus. Hours later, local media reported that the fire had been extinguished.

“Doctors continue to provide assistance to all victims. Doctors assess the health condition of the majority as moderate, while five are in serious condition,” Vorobiov added.
