A bone fragment was removed from Kuchler’s pelvis during a marathon operation. The next procedure is planned for Christmas Eve.

Matthias Walkner is currently going through what is probably the most difficult time of his career. After his devastating training crash in the USA, in which the Kuchler motorcycle ace suffered a knee injury, multiple, including open, fractures to his tibia, fibula and foot as well as a complex comminuted fracture to his upper left ankle, Walkner was already in Palm Springs, California operated on twice. After the transfer to Austria, the next procedure was scheduled for Wednesday at the Graz UKH to reconstruct the severely damaged ankle. The 2018 Dakar winner announced on social networks on Saturday evening how complex the operation actually was.

Walkner has to stay in intensive care because of intestinal germs

“Since the operation on Wednesday I have been in the intensive care unit for safety reasons and I am still very tired and weak. Today is the first day that I am feeling reasonably well again. I had an operation that lasted 15 hours and now I have it “I also got an intestinal germ because my immune system is so weakened. That’s why I’m still in the intensive care unit at the moment,” writes the 37-year-old, who is already scheduled for his next operation on Christmas Eve. “Tomorrow, December 24th, I have the next operation, but it is a very small one, and if everything goes well, I can leave the intensive care unit on December 25th or 26th. The operation on my knee will be on December 27th Then the marathon of operations should be over for now.”
