Mattia Giani, “manslaughter”. The investigation into the footballer’s death begins –

Mattia Giani’s death will have a judicial follow-up. The Public Prosecutor’s Office of Florence has opened an investigation file relating to the death of the 26-year-old footballer of Castelfiorentino United who on Sunday 14 April, at the Campi Bisenzio stadium (Florence), during a match of the Eccellenza championship against Lanciotto Campi, suffered an arrest heart attack and died on Monday morning at the Florentine hospital in Careggi. The alleged crime is manslaughter, but at the moment there are no people registered in the register of suspects by the Prosecutor’s Office.

The public prosecutor in charge of the case, Giuseppe Ledda, has ordered that an autopsy be carried out on the 26-year-old’s body. The investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office was started after Mattia Giani’s parents were heard on Tuesday 16 April, ‘with summary information’ as people informed of the facts by the carabinieri of the company of San Miniato (Pisa), the municipality where the 26-year-old’s family resides. The point to be clarified, according to the footballer’s parents, is the timing of the rescue. Mattia Giani’s parents, who have not yet filed a complaint, were in the stands of the Campi Bisenzio stadium last Sunday and followed moment by moment what was happening on the playing field.

«Hi Matti. Today every thought goes to you, our little brother of our beloved uncle Elia. Dear Uncle Eli, we are devastated and there are no words, but we will hold each other and in times of difficulty we and your nieces will help you get back on your feet. Mattia, may the earth be light on you”, was the reaction on Instagram of Roma defender Gianluca Mancini, who also posted a photo with Giani.
