Red Bull Racing F1 driver Max Verstappen believes that the publication of a report like the FIA (International Automobile Federation) on the final round of the 2021 F1 Abu Dhabi GP should be an annual activity.
The fierce 2021 title battle between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton ended in a controversial manner at the Yas Marina Circuit, urging the FIA to review the event.
The FIA report was released at the 2022 F1 opening Bahrain Grand Prix, with major changes to the structure and personnel of the race control.
Max Verstappen is pleased with the publication of such a report, but doubts that it was a one-time event to address the dispute.
Max Verstappen believes that it is standard practice for all organizations to review annually, so he doesn’t know why F1 isn’t doing the same and should do it in the future. Says.
“I think it’s good to show the world what they (FIA) were investigating,” Max Verstappen told Sky Sports F1.
“I think this kind of research should be done every year. As an organization or as a team, I think I’m always trying to improve, improve and make things better.”
“For me, it’s a very natural process that I have to do.”
Certainly the 2021 F1 season controversy was not limited to the F1 Abu Dhabi GP.
At various stages of the season, track limits were another source of great debate and frustration, and many believed that policing and enforcement were inconsistent.
Starting this year, the FIA will be joined by Eduardo Freitas and Niels Witzig as FIA Race Directors, formerly under Charlie White as Deputy Race Directors.
Eduardo Freitas and Neil’s Witchitch have replaced their race director roles, and Herbie Blash and Colin Haywood, former deputy race directors under Charlie Whiting, have been appointed as new permanent senior advisors. This regime will continue in the other four races of the season.
The virtual race control room has also become active.
At the 2022 F1 Opening Bahrain Grand Prix, the track limit was clearly defined as the outer white line. In other words, the driver must always keep a part of the car in contact.
Max Verstappen supports the deal and explains that he has made much clearer what is considered to be driving out of range as drivers head for weekend races.
“Anyway, I want you to be a little more clear about what is and isn’t allowed this year before the weekend,” explained Max Verstappen.
“I think talking about track limits alone worked really well as a white line in Bahrain. That’s it. There was no discussion.”
“Drivers always like to explore more tracks, but if the track limit is a white line, it’s a white line. It can’t be avoided.”
