Three-time consecutive Formula 1 (F1) world champion, Max Verstappen, took pole position for the Grand Prix (Japanese GP), ahead of his Red Bull teammate, Sergio Perez.

Verstappen recorded the fastest time of 1 minute 28.197 seconds in qualifying at Suzuka, only 0.066 seconds ahead of the Mexican racer to get the one-two starting position.

This is the fourth time the Dutch racer has won pole in several races this season.

Even though he won pole position, Verstappen admitted that he was not satisfied with his performance. In fact, he almost let Perez take the lead at the last moment.

“It wasn’t ideal but it was still pretty good. Of course I always want to be perfect but that’s impossible. Luckily it was still pretty good today,” said Verstappen.

McLaren’s Lando Norris was third, 0.292 seconds behind Verstappen. Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, was fourth.
