Maxence Parrot wins slopestyle gold, Mark McMorris takes bronze

Parrot’s second run was near perfection. The Quebecer succeeded in all his acrobatics, including a 1620 degree triple corkscrew on his last jump with a nice landing. He also showed excellent technique during his run.

It means a lot, especially with the descent I did today. I made three triples in a row. I’ve never done that in my career. This is my biggest descent and I landed perfectly, he mentioned after his victory.

He was rewarded by the judges who awarded him 90.96 points, the highest total of the competition.

It gives Canada its first gold medal of the Beijing Games. He won silver in this event at the Pyeongchang Games in 2018.

Her victory caps a personally trying Olympic cycle. The 27-year-old battled lymph node cancer, Hodgkin’s lymphoma, in 2019.

« Three years ago I was on my hospital bed, no cardio, no energy, no muscle. Being at the Olympics again, with the gold medal, that says it all! »

It’s unreal

McMorris, on his last attempt, scored 88.53 points.

I feel blessed to win this medal. It’s fantastic. I would have liked another color of medal, but I am so proud of my performance. My last run, under pressure, it’s unreal, he said.

McMorris won bronze in slopestyle for the third straight time at the Olympics, a streak dating back to Sochi 2014.

« I wouldn’t trade three bronze medals for one gold. I am proud to have demonstrated this consistency. To be on the podium three times in a row on the board is special. »

A quote from Mark McMorris, three-time Olympic medalist

Chinese Yiming Su (88.70), 17, finished 2nd. He realized a dream with a medal at home, with two snowboarders he admires.

I can hardly believe I share the podium with them. The first time I watched slopestyle was Mark McMorris. I wondered how he landed back triple jumps. My dream started from there. It’s amazing to be on the podium with them, underlined the young athlete.

The other Canadian in the running, Sébastien Toutant, fell on each of his runs. He finished 9th with 54 points.
