In Cuernavaca (Mexico), a suspension bridge collapsed into a ravine of approximately two meters; Mayor José Luis Uriostegui Salgado, his wife and other public servants were walking on the structure when it collapsed.

State Civil Protection reported that there are at least 25 people injured. Preliminary, several people are reported injured.

The officials were in the place for the reopening of the Ribereño bridge, in the Porfirio Díaz Park in Cuernavaca.

In this regard, the Morelos Civil Protection coordinator, Enrique Clemente, reported that there are 25 injured people, of which two resulted in priority injuries.

“What we have in the preliminary count were two very injured people of first priority, who were helped. The walk is complicated because there are many stairs, a very steep slope and you have to get them out with a lot of work », he said in an interview for Milenio Televisión with Carlos Zúñiga.

The bridge is about three meters from the ground, Clemente said, and the public servants fell on a surface with stones and sand, which would have caused the most serious injuries.

«The bridge did not support and they fell three meters on stones, which was what hurt people. Most were public servants. It is a bridge that had just been restored, it is supposed to have complied with all safety conditions, but we do not know this part, “he said.

He added that regardless of the severity of the injury, the people who had injuries from the fall were taken to different hospitals to receive a medical evaluation.

The governor of the state, Cuauhtémoc Blanco Bravo, lamented the accident and indicated that he hopes that there were no seriously injured people after the accident.

Through social networks, the state president pointed out that “we make ourselves available for any action we can take to support them,” he wrote.
