This Tuesday, the mayor of Maipú, Tomás Vodanovic, met with the Minister of the Interior, Carolina Tohá, in La Moneda, with the aim of addressing various issues related to security in the commune. At the meeting, Vodanovic took the opportunity to raise the need to have military support for certain security tasks in Maipú.
The mayor emphasized the lack of police personnel both in his commune and in other areas of the Metropolitan Region, as well as the security crisis they face. In this context, Vodanovic expressed that it is crucial that the State can use all its available tools to guarantee the security of citizens, including the possibility of having a military presence in specific sectors and for specific functions.
Specifically, Vodanovic detailed that military support could be directed to critical infrastructure sectors, such as Metro lines, oil pipelines, highway entrances and exits, as well as neighborhoods considered more complex in terms of security.
The mayor stressed that this measure must be approached responsibly, through dialogue between the different institutions involved, with the aim of having a concrete impact on the safety of the residents of Maipú.

Vodanovic’s request raises a new approach to the commune’s security strategy, seeking closer collaboration between civil and military authorities to address the security challenges facing Maipú and other areas of the Metropolitan Region.
Likewise, that the request “is not about sending out soldiers to carry out any type of work,” but rather it must be a coordinated, thought-out and limited work so that “the measure is not just something symbolic that seeks to generate security the first weeks, but that it has a real impact on the safety conditions of the neighbors.”
