“We have a mixed traffic accident with the involvement of more than two vehicles, which was caused – and this is clear – by the fact that one driver blatantly violated the stop that existed, forcing another driver, Yiannis Xanthopoulos, to he maneuvers to avoid the collision and returning to his traffic stream, loses control of the car from the sudden change of steering wheel.
This led to him crashing into another car. This would not have happened if it were not for the driver who violated the stop, who did not stop to provide first aid. He stopped for a while, he saw what happened, and he knowingly left, he didn’t call the police, nor the ambulance and he showed up after a few days, which makes us believe that he might not have been driving either, Mr. Balaktaris initially said.
He went on to say: “If he was driving, he would have intervened at the first moment or called the authorities. The fact that he didn’t call the authorities, so it can’t be seen from which cell phone he’s calling, makes us believe that he wasn’t driving. And if he wasn’t driving there’s a question of who he’s trying to cover and why.”
At another point he said: “What I know is the human frame, it’s impossible to soften when you’ve lost a 19-year-old in this way. It’s completely understandable. From the first moment, Giannis contacted both the injured and the family of the missing child, in every possible way to express his sorrow for what happened… The one who has not expressed his apology to anyone involved is the man which caused the accident”.
As for the singer’s condition today, he said: “Yiannis is trying to recover his strength from the injuries he has, including the mental ones. He is still shocked, he will try day by day to get back on his feet, but of course he will never be able to get what happened out of his mind.”
