McDonald’s Q3 Earnings: EPS Beats Estimates Despite U.S. Sales Decline

McDonald’s (MCD) reported mixed third-quarter financial results on November 4, 2026, posting an adjusted earnings per share of $3.57 that beat Wall Street’s $3.38 consensus estimate while quarterly revenue rose 1% to $7.16 billion, falling short of the $7.29 billion expected by analysts.

The fast-food giant faced domestic headwinds as customer traffic declined, driving a 0.2% drop in U.S. same-store sales for the period. While the domestic contraction outperformed the 0.5% decline anticipated by surveyed analysts, the dip showed ongoing pressure on budget-conscious diners.

Executing Value Strategies Amid U.S. Traffic Headwinds

The balance sheet tells a story of international strength offsetting domestic friction. Global same-store sales grew 1.5%, supported by an international developmental licensed markets division that surged 4.2%. CEO Chris Kempczinski said the company’s U.S. business had fallen short on execution, particularly on value offerings, while CFO Ian Borden said U.S. same-store sales returned to growth in September after falling in July and August.

To reverse domestic declines, the chain leaned into its Extra Value Meals and mobile app promotions. Executives are currently testing two new value formats—one featuring mix-and-match bundles and another utilizing set combinations—with the offering that resonates most with customers and franchisees set to roll out across the U.S. in early 2027.
