McDonald’s has launched one of the year’s most unusual and affordable gaming handhelds in China. Anyone willing to pay 30 yuan (approx. 3.96 euros) gets a cardboard box that looks confusingly similar to the Chinese packaging for real Chicken McNuggets, as well as a small transport bag for the handheld.
The handheld is shaped like an oversized Chicken McNugget. The small, monochrome display does not have any lighting, so you can only gamble as long as there is enough light available. The handheld comes with just one game: Tetris. It’s not entirely clear why McDonald’s chose this particular title, but with more than 425 million sales, Tetris is still one of the most successful games of all time, so the choice could simply be due to the title’s popularity.
Four large arrow keys allow you to move the Tetris blocks or move them down faster, while a large, round button rotates the blocks clockwise. According to the fine print on the McDonald’s China website The gaming handheld is limited to only 400,000 units nationwide, at least so far the company has given no indication that the Chicken McNugget gaming handheld will be available in the rest of the world. If you want the Chicken McNugget, you can have this one order via ebaywhere the handheld costs around 25 euros including international shipping plus import sales tax.
