McLaren has announced that its partnership with Gulf will end in 2022.

McLaren announced a partnership with Gulf midway through the 2020 season. The revival of a historic partnership that has been successful in Formula 1 and the Can-Am series since 1968 has become a hot topic.

Starting with the 2020 F1 British Grand Prix, McLaren’s F1 machine adopted Gulf’s famous blue and orange as part of a deal that included the supercar brand.

The partnership was a success, with Gulf and McLaren showing custom liveries at the 2021 F1 Monaco GP, which received tremendous praise from fans.

However, McLaren and Gulf have decided not to extend their sponsorship deal after more than two years of partnership.

“Our longstanding relationship with Gulf has been reflected throughout the history of McLaren Racing,” said Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing.

“We have documented so many iconic moments together, including the Monaco livery for 2021. This feels like the natural end of our partnership, but we welcome old friends as before. There is always room for

“We are extremely proud of what we have achieved in our historic partnership with McLaren,” said Gulf Oil CEO Mike Jones.

“We have shared many great moments, including the iconic Monaco livery and a sold-out bespoke collection of merchandise, but the real reward is the unparalleled passion of our fans and all that we have done. It comes from the engagement that puts the fans at the center of the

“We look back so fondly on all the memories we’ve made and are excited about the future that awaits.”

After first partnering in 1968, McLaren and Gulf enjoyed an F1 and sports car partnership that lasted through 1973, including victories in F1 and Can-Am races.

The Gulf logo quickly became one of motor racing’s most recognizable logos. In the 1971 film Le Mans, Steve McQueen was the driver for his Gulf-backed Porsche team.

The company won a number of Le Mans victories and renewed its sponsorship partnership with McLaren and the privately owned race team run by Ray Bellum in the 1990s.

The Gulf McLaren F1 GTR dominated sports car racing at the time, winning the 1996 BPR Global Endurance Series and the 1997 Le Mans GT class.
