The traditional English racing team McLaren will compete in the 2022 World Championship final on the Yas Marina Circuit with a special livery – designed by the Libenese artist Anna Tangles.
The 2022 Formula 1 World Championship will end at the Yas Marina Circuit with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. For the World Cup final, the traditional English racing team McLaren came up with something very special – the second oldest and second most successful team after Ferrari uses the creativity of the Lebanese artist Anna Tangles for a special paint job.
The client British American Tobacco’s brief for the artist: She should combine her visual language with flowing waves with the papaya orange and blue of McLaren.
Anna Tangles says: «I’ve been a Formula 1 fan all my life. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that one day I would be able to show my art in the premier class. This is meant to be a sign of encouragement for young artists, especially Middle Eastern women, to be more capable of realizing themselves.”
A year ago, BAT’s marketing department launched the Driven by Change program, which gives emerging artists the opportunity to have their work featured in Formula 1 displays. Cairo-born Rabab Tantawy became the first Middle Eastern woman to paint a Formula 1 car in 2021.
At the time, Tantawy’s work on the McLaren was intended to symbolize the theme of togetherness, and the highly acclaimed special paint job was created in collaboration with the car designer Davide Virdis. Special gag: Certain elements of the paintwork glowed at night.
