“A very promising world first”: a UCLouvain team discovers how to prevent Covid infection
Presented as “a very promising world first”, a new step in understanding the mechanisms of entry of Covid-19 into cells has just been taken by researchers from UCLouvain. Not only did they manage to identify a new key that allows the famous virus to attack cells, but they also managed to close the lock, so as to block Covid-19 and avoid its interaction with the cell. In other words: they succeeded in preventing the infection, no more and no less. This discovery raises the hope of developing an antiviral, in the form of an aerosol, which would eradicate the virus in the event of infection or high-risk contact.
