Nagavaj Naidu, an IFS of 1998 batch, is fluent in Chinese
NEW DELHI: Four Indian diplomats in the foreign service, months of hard work, communications with member states and sleepless operations since September 3 announced the world leaders, the start of the G20 summit on Saturday.

Abhay Thakur, Additional Secretary, Sous-Sherpa, second is India’s G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant. He has been India’s ambassador to Mauritius and Nigeria and has handled Nepal and Bhutan in the Ministry of External Affairs. Abhay Thakur has also worked as a Director in the Office of the External Affairs Minister. A Russian speaker, he learned the language as part of training – which came in handy this time, as joint secretary Nagaraj Naidu is a Chinese speaker in the Kakanur team. Nagaraj Naidu, who was the key negotiator during the Ukraine conflict, has experience as Chef de Cabinet to the President of the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly. Nagavaj Naidu, an IFS of 1998 batch, is fluent in Chinese and has served in four different services in Beijing, Hong Kong and Guangzhou. He managed the economic diplomacy arm of the MEA and headed the Europe West Division, where he was responsible for relations with key G7 countries including the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the EU. He holds a master’s degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
Eenam Gambhir, the only woman officer in the team, is currently the G20 Joint Secretary and an IFS officer of the 2005 batch. She has served as Senior Adviser on Peace and Security in the Office of the President of the 74th Session of the UN General Assembly at UN Headquarters in New York.
Eenam Gambhir has also served in embassies in Latin America, including Mexico and Argentina. Fluent in Spanish, she worked in New Delhi from 2011 to 2016 and worked on issues related to Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran. She has also served in the Permanent Mission of India to the UN. She holds two master’s degrees; One in Mathematics from Delhi University and another in International Security from Geneva University. She writes poetry in Spanish, English and Hindi.
Ashish Sinha, another 2005 batch IFS officer, is fluent in Spanish and has served in Madrid, Kathmandu, New York and Nairobi. Worked in the office of the Foreign Minister in New Delhi and as a desk officer for Pakistan. Before becoming the G20 Joint Secretary, he had been negotiating for India in multilateral settings for the past seven years. Read more
