Mercedes-Benz is recalling 261,000 SUVs

The SUV models GLE and GLS from the years 2018 to 2023 are affected, according to a recall published on Wednesday in the database of the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA). Just last week, the KBA published a Mercedes recall of around 341,000 GLE and GLS models worldwide due to a possible fire risk.

A software error in the transmission control unit could lead to engine failure, increasing the risk of an accident, the recall said. When asked, a spokesman for the Stuttgart car manufacturer said that the matter had no impact on the vehicle’s steering and braking systems. Mercedes-Benz is not aware of any damage to property or persons in this regard. As a precautionary measure, the software in the affected vehicles will be updated.

Since the beginning of the year, Mercedes has brought over a million vehicles back into the workshops. In March, over half a million right-hand drive cars were affected by problems with the steering software, and in February there were 250,000 cars where certain fuses did not meet the requirements.
