Mercenary rescues friend from Russian captivity

The Ukraine war has been causing much suffering and destruction for over a year. But even in the darkest of times there are still rays of hope.

A video with an unknown location documents how a Ukraine mercenary stormed a building – and unexpectedly ran into an old friend. The soldier, a New Zealander, searches the building and asks those inside to show their hands.

Suddenly one of the people shouts: «New Zealanders! Oh, now I’m going” – The mercenary reacts in amazement, but then is also happy: “My brother! I know him, good man!’ Instead of Russians, the mercenary encountered Ukrainian prisoners of war who had been held in the building for several months.

The heartbreaking video from the Ukraine war is quickly making the rounds on Twitter. Several media reports that the two men are friends. Ultimately, however, this cannot be verified.
