Messi will extend his contract with Paris Saint-Germain for at least another season

The French newspaper, Le Parisien, reported on Wednesday that Lionel Messi, the World Cup winner in Qatar with Argentina, had reached an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain, the French first division football club, to stay with the club for at least the 2023-2024 season.

Messi, 35, a seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, helped Argentina win the World Cup by beating France on penalties in the final on Sunday.

“In early December, in the midst of the World Cup, an agreement was reached (with Messi) to stay for at least another season,” the newspaper said, without citing any sources.

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said this month that Messi was happy with the Ligue 1 champions, adding that discussions regarding extending the contract would take place following the World Cup.

Messi, who scored 12 goals and sent 14 assists with Paris Saint-Germain in all competitions this season, moved to the French capital from Barcelona in 2021 under a two-year contract.
