Meta plans to launch its first augmented reality glasses by 2024

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has been trying to break into the hardware market, but so far it hasn’t had much success except for the Oculus VR headset.

Now, the company is said to be developing a new augmented reality glasses called Project Nazare. According to the report, Meta aims to launch the product by 2024, and more advanced versions will be available in 2026 and 2028.

The report from The Verge also reveals that the company has invested billions of dollars in developing these new augmented reality glasses, which are part of Mark Zuckerberg’s vision for the Metaverse.

The glasses are also expected to be more expensive than the $299 Oculus Quest 2 VR, which is likely due to the increased prices of the materials used to make the augmented reality glasses.

To offer a true augmented reality experience, the headset will come with eye-tracking cameras with custom waveguides and microLED display devices, which appear to cost thousands of dollars.

According to the report, the glasses will weigh around 100g, regarding four times as much as regular glass, and will have thick black frames. It is also clear that the battery life will be only 4 hours and it will be charged by the included wireless tablet that can be put in the pocket.
