Mets mandan a James McCann a los Orioles

The Baltimore Orioles announced Wednesday that they have acquired catcher James McCann in a cash trade with the Mets and a player whose name will be revealed later. McCann, 32, will serve as the backup behind starting catcher Adley Rutschman.

McCann has two years and $24 million remaining on his contract, but the Orioles will take only $5 million of that total, a source told MLB.com executive reporter Mark Feinsand. The player the Mets receive probably won’t be a notable prospect, according to the source.

McCann wasn’t the productive hitter the Mets had hoped for in his two years in New York. The mask was limited to just 61 games in 2022, due to two visits to the disabled list (with a broken left wrist and a strained left side). The right-handed slugger hit .195/.257/.282 with three home runs and 18 RBIs last season.
