Mexican Senate Approves Appointment of Omar Fayad as Ambassador to Norway: Controversy and Contrasting Views

The plenary session of the Senate approved the ratification of Omar Fayad Meneses as Mexican ambassador to Norway, with 70 votes in favor, 33 against and two abstentions.

This December 13, legislators discussed and voted on the initiative of the United Commissions on Foreign Affairs and Foreign Affairs Europein which the appointment that the president Andrés Manuel López Obrador performed in favor of Omar Fayad.

After the appointment, Omar Fayad protested as Mexico’s ambassador to Norway, although the opposition voted against his appointment and demanded that he respond to a payment for having delivered Hidalgo to Morena.

Immediately, the senator Ricardo Monreal defended the appointment of Omar Fayad pointing out that he has a political career and as a legislator he also approved positions “of politicians, but his memory is very short. It makes me very sad that cynicism transforms the most sensible minds.” He also criticized those “converts” who today criticize what they previously endorsed.

Furthermore, he assured that Fayad did not give up the place in Hidalgoa state where a movement was born that led Julio Menchaca to win by more than 30 points.

“It seems daring to insult him. With what quality do they hurt people? “They don’t like him, don’t vote for him, I wish he could defend himself.”

Previously, the full Senate also endorsed the appointments of Alicia Guadalupe Kerber Palma, as Consul General of Mexico in San Diego, California; as well as Carlos González Gutiérrez, as Consul General of Mexico in Los Angeles, California, United States of America.

Likewise, from Olga Beatriz García Guillén, as Consul General of Mexico in Vancouver and Víctor Manuel Treviño Escudero, as Consul General of Mexico in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and took oath from the new members of the diplomatic corps.
